Birthday Weekend

Since my mom and I have birthdays fairly close to each other we decided to throw a birthday party last weekend.  Friends and family came and we set the decorations up in our back yard.  My parents decided to go all out for this party and hire a taco caterer.  Since this was going to be the "last big birthday" they wanted to do something fun.  Everyone had an amazing time and there was dancing, basketball, and tequila shots.  I walked into my house to see a bunch of toddlers dancing to the infamous Gangnam Style.  It was the funniest thing.  I heard even my grandma was dancing later that now.  Now there's something you need to know. My mom is definitely not a drinker.  She's told me in the past she thinks she's had a shot of vodka before. But that was it.  Since we were both turning a celebratory age this year she agreed to take not one but THREE shots with me.  I was speechless really.. To be honest I was hoping to see her drunk as it is a side I've never seen before. But I think with all the tacos, cakes, and pies she had almost no effect.. (bummer).  My family isn't usually the type to drink at get togethers either.  If anything its usually the occasional beer or some wine but everyone was lining up to try the tequila.  It felt like the Twilight Zone.
I do want to thank everyone for joining us and being a part of our shindig.  But I especially want to thank my mother for putting this all together.  I know right now isn't the best time to be spending money like that but she wanted me to have a good time.  We all worked really hard to make the party look nice.  I am truly blessed to have all these people in my life.  I love you mama. (:

Again, sorry for lagging on posts. Midterms are endless with the quarter system I'm starting to discover.
Back to studying I goo.

I haven't had all the pictures sent to me but I will post more of them as soon as I receive them.
Because I was pretty busy that day I asked Steven and some family members to snap some quick photos for me. So the majority of these pictures don't belong to me.

Thrift Haul!

I finally finished one of my midterms today and had a ton of spare time since I only have one class.  I went to a Goodwill hoping they still had this bug display I saw a couple of weeks ago.  But of course they didn't have it because the damn thing was so awesome to begin with.  After browsing around I spotted a vintage Brownie camera in their display.  I got really excited and asked to see it.  It was a Brownie Chiquita by Kodak.  I've always wanted a Brownie because they're so small and cute.  But then I saw an old camera bag in the corner and asked to see that one too.  I didn't think much of it at first and had barely noticed it when I was looking around.  But the cashier opened it up and it was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen.  It was Duaflex, another camera I've been wanting. (I want a lot of things, my bad).  Specifically this was a Duaflex IV by Kodak.  It seemed to be in immaculate condition and it even came with extra GE sure fire bulbs in the original box and a flash. And on top of that the camera bag itself was adorable. Although I didn't really agree with the price I gave in... And whether or not it works I have no regrets whatsoever.
In the end I decided I just wanted the Duaflex and put the Brownie aside after realizing it wasn't worth 20 bucks with the condition it was in.
So far I've only figured out how to use the viewfinder and press the shutter button which seems to be working well.  I think this weekend I'm going to take it to a camera shop to get it inspected.  I have no idea how to use it but I intend on figuring it out.  I would lovee to be able to take pictures with it.
Here are pictures of my newest treasure. :)

Have an amazing Tuesday like I'm having!

FAV #5

Blogger and artist Eng Gee Fan has the cutest posts and drawings. She seems to be full of creativity and her minimal yet colorful work amazes me. Check out her site at minifanfan.com.
I know summer just ended but I recently saw this one piece and I LOVE IT.  Being a Star Wars fan this would be awesome to have.
I love the little butts on these antique planters :p

This hat is to die for.  I love how the colors go so well with each other.  I can't wait for winter!
This chain necklace
This temporary tattoo is hilarious.  I just love the graphic done by These Are Things.  The couple is very talented and their designs are super adorable.

A little update:
The quarter system has finally kicked in and I've been bombarded with assignments and midterms. So I've been spending my breaks studying or trying to get work done.  It seems like all the teachers making everything due at once.  They're doing it on purpose I bet.  Kidding... sorta.
Anyway, his past weekend was also my 21st birthday. (whoooo...) I had an amazing time. But I'll save that for another post.

Have a good night!

Florence!

A couple of months ago I was browsing band tours on Ticketmaster. I typed in Florence and the Machine and voila! tickets were to be on sale the following Monday! I was so excited. Then it dawned on me that I could get these tickets as an early anniversary present for Steven since it was in October.
I tried keeping it a secret but apparently he heard KROQ announce the concert on the radio...

Anyway..
Sunday was the day of the concert so we finally went on a date (since moving we haven't really gotten to see each other for long periods of time). Steven picked me up and we stopped by this really cool vintage store called Super Thrift in La Habra. With the word "thrift" in there I was expecting an actual thrift store. It turned out to be more of a fashionable vintage store. They had great customer service and very wide collection of things. Some of their prices are pretty reasonable and some were overpriced.
After browsing we headed over to Hollywood and had an early dinner at The Safe House. It's a Thai sports bar/restaurant. I love their style. The interior had exposed bricks, wood, and concrete, giving it an industrial feel. The food there is delicious and they put effort to make their dishes look gourmet. Every dish is super colorful it looks almost too pretty to eat. Sike. No food it too pretty for me not to eat it.
We arrived early at the Hollywood Bowl and waited until it was time to find our seats. There were so many different kinds of people attending. I love people watching and I love looking at how people dress. The opening bands were the Macabees and The Weekend. Both were just ok to me. However it seems like The Weekend is pretty well known since everyone was screaming. Florence and the Machine was of course amazing. I think they had to dim the sound system because they sounded much farther away than the other bands. But I'm pretty sure it was probably because Florence sings so high pitch. She was so humorous and energetic. Jokes were constantly being made and she told everyone to get up and hug each other and jump around.
The only bad thing that came out of it was the people sitting next to me. I recently caught a cold and had bad sinuses. But the couple next to me chose to light a joint and smoke marijuana right next to me. The smoke gave me an allergy attack and I did not appreciate it at all. (say no to drugs!)
Other than that it was a wonderful date night and I look forward to many more with Steven.

Have a great tuesday!

Life on Instagram

Since I've moved away from home I've just been trying to focus on school and keeping busy instead of letting my mind wander and become homesick. I've been spending more time with my cousin, Geoffrey. He got me into collecting comic books somehow. In the beginning I had no idea what we were doing I was thinking, "Hey, these look nice I'll just get them." But now that he's explained to me about the New 52 series and how this is our chance to collect the first issues, I caved in. Knowing that they will be very valuable in a few years we've been going to comic book stores every week. I try not to buy too much- just enough so that I can complete a series. But I cannot imagine how much my Geoffrey has spent on comics. He's shed at least $3-400. We also went to the Anthology Comic book signing at Phat Collectibles. Writers and artists of DC comics were there. I felt like such a geek but it was an interesting experience. Before school started I was not happy with my choice of universities. I thought my school was outdated and needed so much work. But now that I've been going and able to see everything, it really is a beautiful school. True, there are some things that need remodeling and their architecture isn't the most practical, but what CalPoly has unlike others is greenery. There are tons of trees and grasses for you to relax at. We have a green house that mimics the rainforest with a caiman display. The entire campus consists of steep hills and stairs so I'm hoping that will whip me into some kind of shape. But what really got me was driving up to this one parking lot in the morning. The first day of school I was in awe when I drove up this secluded winding road. The morning fog reflected the sun and glowed between the trees and as you're driving you can see a shepherd herding the sheep and cows grazing. Now every time I go to school it's the most peaceful, beautiful thing I look forward to in the morning. I'm usually a very timid person so making friends has been slow. I talk to a few people in my class but that's as far as it goes. So I've been trying to join clubs to force myself to meet more people. So far I'm a member of the Geological Society. This club mostly consists of GIS majors but I joined because they love the outdoors and enjoy camping. Every year they plan trips to Big Bear, Joshua Tree, etc. Just my cup of tea. So I will be looking forward to adventures with the folk.
I don't want to cut this short now my class will be starting soon.

Have a great Tuesday!
